About
Australian war correspondent Peter Greste arrives in Cairo at the end of Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s military takeover of the Egyptian government. Greste, a veteran of Middle East conflict, is unaware of Sisi’s hatred for his current employer, Al Jazeera. From the moment he steps foot in Egypt, a plan is set in motion to arrest Greste and his crew. What unfolds is a descent into a nightmare in which Greste is seen as collateral damage in the war on truth.
What will the audience take away
from The Correspondent?

Kriv Stenders (Director)
“I hope audience watch the film and get an idea of what Peter went through, and how incredibly brave people like Kate Peyton and Peter Greste are. It's one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, and I want people to realise that true journalism is a very important foundation stone of civilisation. If we don't have truth tellers, then we are in a lot of trouble. Literally. We really need those truth tellers to keep us moving forward and looking at reality with objectivity.”
Peter Greste (Protagonist)
“When we started work on THE CORRESPONDENT, I knew it would take a few
years to bring it to completion, and I worried it would date quickly. But we've seen the ways in
which this story has become even more relevant. Journalists are dying at horrific rates in places like the Ukraine and Gaza. Journalists are imprisoned at near record rates around the world. And so, this story and these issues are more relevant now than they've been at any time.”

Yael Stone (Kate Peyton)
“I think when audiences see THE CORRESPONDENT, there will be no way around putting themselves in Peter's shoes, because of the incredible way Kriv has made it. What a gift to experience a film in such an intimate way. Audiences will be able to learn vital things that Peter Greste learned through a harrowing experience, and get to learn them for free. When storytelling is this good, that's what it can give us. Deep, deep lessons.”
Julian Maroun
(Mohamed Fahmy)
“Audiences can expect a truly immersive experience and come out asking questions of themselves. I think they're going to be entertained – and be both thrilled and afraid. It will be an expansive experience.”
Rahel Romahn
(Baher Mohamed)
“THE CORRESPONDENT is about human beings in a desperate situation and the revelations they have about themselves and others. They’ll experience a vast array of emotions – joy, excitement, sadness, terror. This film absolutely gives you insights into all parts of the human condition.”
