Truth Is Not The Only Casualty.

ABOUT THE FILM
THE CORRESPONDENT is a gripping biographical thriller about the defence of the truth and the human spirit. Starring Richard Roxburgh in a career best performance and directed by Kriv Stenders (Red Dog).
When Australian war correspondent Peter Greste (Richard Roxburgh) arrives in Cairo to cover for a reporter on Christmas leave, the political temperature is high. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s military takeover of the Egyptian government is all but complete. Greste, a veteran of Middle East conflict, is alert but not alarmed – he’s unaware of the depth of Sisi’s hatred of his current employer, Al Jazeera, for its reporting of the coup. From the moment he steps foot in Egypt, a plan is set in motion to arrest Greste and his crew. What unfolds is a descent into a Kafkaesque nightmare in which Greste is seen as collateral damage in the war on truth.

"An electrical charge courses through the air...
The cinematography is handsome capturing both the harshly cold surrounds of a stone cell and the blazing sun, with Stenders account always muscularly engrossing, standing tall on Roxburgh's capable shoulders"
- Stephen A Russel on Screen Hub

"Overall score: 9/10
The Correspondent is a fantastic exploration of both political and personal turmoil using flashbacks and tension that keeps the audience engaged throughout."
- James Murphy on Event Adelaide

"Roxburgh gets inside Greste's character...
A notably quiet performance, void of sentimentality and free of heroics... Roxburgh is as solid as ever."
- Penelope Debelle on In Review
"Rahel Romahn also shines in the film, stealing the show with his charisma, comedic timing, and emotional depths."
